About
My work is an exploration of autobiography that I tell through the mediums of sculpture, installation and video performance. The material I use is often produced from revisiting memory and finding source material in the world via popular culture to explore those points of significance. I recreate moments of self-gaze, introspection, and failure, often using comedy, drama, and slice of life narrative found in the cinema and late 90s/ early 2000’s television programming.
Through the contemplation of social construct and habit in my own existence I have established my love for a metaphysics of the mundane. I.e. the redundancy of everyday life (asleep, awake, wake, wake, wake, asleep, awake). Motifs such as tube televisions and flooring material (carpet, wood) reference domesticity, and the redundancy of a living room aesthetic as a form of communicating my delight for the dull.
By producing this work, I attempt to assist in the re-birth of my self image to contextualize myself in the world. This desire is driven by a past experience of loss of self that forced me to raise the question of “what is my purpose…”
